The quick guide to flipping images

What does a flip actually do?

Flipping makes a mirror copy of your picture. A horizontal flip swaps left and right, like looking in a bathroom mirror. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom, like the reflection in a lake.

This tool does it in your browser, so it's quick, free, and your photos stay on your device. Rotating is in here too, since the two usually go hand in hand.

How to flip an image

1

Add your photos

Drop them in, pick them from your device, or paste with Ctrl/Cmd + V. Up to 30 at a time.

2

Flip or rotate

Tap Horizontal, Vertical, 180° or the rotate buttons. The preview changes as you tap, and the same move applies to every photo.

3

Pick a format and save

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP, then download one photo or the whole batch.

When would you need to flip an image?

Selfies that read backwards

Front cameras mirror your shot, so any sign or shirt text ends up reversed. One flip and it reads normally again.

Photos that face the wrong way

Need the subject looking toward your headline instead of off the page? Mirror it and the layout suddenly works.

Sideways or upside-down shots

Phones and scanners sometimes save pictures on their side. Rotate until it looks right, then save the fixed copy.

Scanned documents and receipts

Fed the page in the wrong way? A 180° turn puts the text the right way up in one tap.

Product and listing photos

Keep a whole catalogue facing the same direction so thumbnails line up neatly in a grid.

Print-on-demand and transfers

Iron-on and sticker printing usually want a mirrored file. Flip first, print second.
