What is a grade calculator?

A grade calculator is a tool used to calculate a student's overall grade in a course or subject. It takes into account the grades received on individual assignments, quizzes, exams, and other evaluations, along with their respective weights or percentages.

How to use a grade calculator?

To use a grade calculator, you'll need to know the following information:

  • The grades you've received on each assignment or evaluation
  • The weight or percentage of each assignment or evaluation
  • The total number of assignments or evaluations
  • You can then enter this information into a grade calculator like this, or manually, to calculate your overall grade.

How to calculate a weighted grade?

To calculate a weighted grade, multiply each grade by its corresponding weight or percentage, then add the results.

What is the formula to calculate a weighted grade?

The formula to calculate a weighted grade is:

Weighted Grade = (Grade 1 x Weight 1) + (Grade 2 x Weight 2) + ... + (Grade n x Weight n)

Where: Grade 1, Grade 2, ..., Grade n are the individual grades. Weight 1, Weight 2, ..., Weight n are the corresponding weights or percentages.

Examples of weighted grade calculations

Example 1:

Assignment 1: 80% (20% of total grade)

Assignment 2: 90% (30% of total grade)

Assignment 3: 70% (50% of total grade)

Weighted Grade = (0.8 x 0.2) + (0.9 x 0.3) + (0.7 x 0.5) = 0.16 + 0.27 + 0.35 = 0.78 or 78%

Example 2:

Quiz 1: 85% (15% of total grade)

Quiz 2: 95% (20% of total grade)

Midterm Exam: 80% (30% of total grade)

Final Exam: 90% (35% of total grade)

Weighted Grade = (0.85 x 0.15) + (0.95 x 0.2) + (0.8 x 0.3) + (0.9 x 0.35) = 0.1275 + 0.19 + 0.24 + 0.315 = 0.8725 or 87.25%

Example 3:

Homework 1: 70% (10% of total grade)

Homework 2: 80% (15% of total grade)

Project: 90% (40% of total grade)

Final Project: 85% (35% of total grade)

Weighted Grade = (0.7 x 0.1) + (0.8 x 0.15) + (0.9 x 0.4) + (0.85 x 0.35) = 0.07 + 0.12 + 0.36 + 0.2975 = 0.8275 or 82.75%

How to improve your grades?

Find below the key tips that experts recommend for getting good grades:

  • Set clear goals and priorities
  • Create a study schedule and stick to it
  • Attend classes regularly and participate actively
  • Seek help when needed from teachers or classmates
  • Review and practice periodically, rather than cramming at the last minute
  • Stay organized and keep track of assignments and deadlines
  • Get enough sleep and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How to calculate the percentage grade?

To calculate a percentage grade, you'll need to know the total number of points possible and the number of points you've earned.

Percentage Grade = (Total Points Earned / Total Points Possible) x 100

For example, if you've earned 80 points out of a possible 100 points, your percentage grade would be: Percentage Grade = (80 / 100) x 100 = 80%
